Cool.

Emily Fry 0:01
All right. My name is Emily Fry, and today I'm interviewing Natasha Loeb, who formerly attended Center College. Today is January 19th, 2021. And we are recording this interview over zoom. Today, we will be discussing Natascha's experiences during her encounter with the supernatural on Centre’s campus [Laughter - Loeb]. Okay, thank you for speaking with me today. Would you mind if we started off with a little bit of background information about, like, the years that you attended Centre and what you were involved in there?

Natascha Loeb 0:32
Not at all. Do I just like start telling you about it, or do you have questions? Okay.

Emily Fry 0:39
Just context first, about…

Natascha Loeb 0:39
Okay. So, this was…. Um, I went to Centre from 2014 to 2018, I think. And so, my freshman year on the field hockey team, our locker room was in Sutcliffe, which is like haunted. So, the story happened my freshman year when we were in that locker room.

Emily Fry 1:03
So, what details do you remember from this encounter? Like the time, or the events throughout it?

Natascha Loeb 1:11
It was late at night, because we had just gotten back from a, like a bus ride. So, I don't know exactly what time, but I know it was dark outside. So. Pretty spooky.

Emily Fry 1:22
So, what exactly happened in your paranormal encounter?

Natascha Loeb 1:28
Okay, so, I don't remember, like 100%. But basically, Hayley and I were in the locker room. Hayley was also on the field hockey team. And we were, I think that was the year that we like, shared the locker room with the cross country team. So, we were kind of discussing, like, if anyone else was in the locker room, I think, because we thought, I don't know if we like heard something, or what but, um, so I was saying “I think we're the only ones in here.” And as soon as I said that, Hayley was like, “Oh, my God,” a shin guard had flown off the locker across the room. So, we had like, cubbies, so we usually had our shin guards in like the top little pocket and it just flew right out. It was crazy.

Emily Fry 2:15
And you saw it fly?

Natascha Loeb 2:17
No, I didn't see it fly. I saw it land on the other side of the room, though. Like there was no way that it could have been over there. So, I guess we'll never know.

Emily Fry 2:30
Had you heard of anyone else having experiences in that room?

Natascha Loeb 2:35
Um, not, I don't know about the locker room specifically. But I mean, I know that Sutcliffe is supposedly haunted. Didn't, I think, like some, like a janitor, like hung himself in the basement or something? So, it's always a little spooky in there.

Emily Fry 2:51
Yeah, so I guess that kind of leads into my next question about like, what do you remember hearing about spiritual activity on Centre’s campus or, like other stories?

Natascha Loeb 3:07
Like, about Sutcliffe? Or just anywhere?

Emily Fry
Just anywhere, like Centre’s reputation as being a haunted place?

Natascha Loeb
Oh, it's like super haunted. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like, Breck was a like, a TB hospital or something. So, it's very haunted. And a student killed himself in there. And then the back of Young I'm pretty sure is haunted, too, because some construction worker like fell down an elevator shaft. So, I think those are, like, the main stories that I know.

Emily Fry
Did you, had you heard these before you experienced the shin guard thing in the locker room and you? Like did, yeah, did that affect how you believe in ghosts?

Natascha Loeb 3:49
Probably, I feel like I didn't know like, all the stories, but I feel like people had already told us that it was haunted. So, yeah. I don't think it made us on the lookout for any ghosts, though.

Emily Fry 4:05
Um, yeah, that's, that's so crazy. [Laughter] So, do you feel like it affected how you interacted with, like, the locker room, or anything? After that, did you feel, did you see yourself like, trying to get other things to happen or provoke the ghost or anything?

Natascha Loeb 4:26
Oh, no, I would never go in there by myself ever again. It scared me. [Laughing].

Emily Fry 4:32
I bet!

Natascha Loeb 4:33
I’m scared of ghosts.

Emily Fry 4:34
You were a freshman, you said?

Natascha Loeb 4:35
Yeah, mhm.

Emily Fry 4:37
That makes it so much scarier. [Laughter]

Natascha Loeb 4:38
I know. Right. But the good news, is we switched locker rooms like every single year. So yeah.

Emily Fry 4:43
Yeah. So was that the one, um, which locker room was it?

Natascha Loeb 4:50
So, I think it was like… do you remember where, like, the room where all the trainers and stuff were? I think it was like down that hallway past there, like right before you get to the football locker rooms, but I could be completely misremembering that.

Emily Fry 5:13
Yeah.

Natascha Loeb 5:14
It was like, down back in that corner, though.

Unknown Speaker 5:18
Um, Let’s see… So, so you feel like in general, that experience didn't really impact, like, your belief in the supernatural? Or…

Natascha Loeb 5:31
I already believed in it. [Laughter]

Emily 5:33
Oh, Okay.

Natascha Loeb 5:35
Not really.

Emily Fry 5:36
Do you think Hayley felt the same way?

Natascha Loeb 5:39
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Hayley believes in ghosts too, like I've never like specifically been like, are you, do you believe? But I'm pretty sure we've talked about it before. So

Emily Fry 5:48
Yeah. Did everyone else on the team believe you?

Natascha Loeb 5:52
Some people did, and some people didn't. I know that there are some people on the team that like, are very strong believers in ghosts. So those people were like, Oh, yeah, that definitely happened. So, who knows?

Emily Fry 6:08
I can imagine some people probably thought you all were playing a prank. [Laughter]

Natascha Loeb 6:13
Oh, 100%. Some people were like, shut up. Idiots. Freshmen. You don’t know anything.

Emily Fry 6:22
That's funny.

Natascha Loeb 6:23
For the most part, I think, though, people were just like, oh okay, that sucks. That's scary.

Emily Fry 6:27
Yeah. Yeah, cause I've heard so many stories about, like things happening in Sutcliffe that it almost seems like no big deal.

Natascha Loeb 6:38
Yeah. I'm pretty sure like the where the golf players practice. Like they have a little range down there. I'm pretty sure that's haunted, too.

Emily Fry 6:48
Yeah. Dr. Egge told us a story about her husband down there. Or, actually, I think it was the racquetball courts.

Natascha Loeb 6:56
Oh, yes. Oh, those are definitely haunted. I know someone who has a story about there.

Emily Fry 7:03
Okay, well, thank you for sharing your story.

Natascha Loeb 7:06
You're so welcome. I'm glad I could help contribute. This class is awesome.

Emily Fry 7:14
Is there anything else you'd like to add before I stop the recording?

Natascha Loeb 7:18
Um, not that I can think of.

Emily Fry 7:21
Okay, sounds good.

Natascha Loeb 7:22
Keep being awesome, Dr. Egge.
